Happy November!

October was a crazy busy month for me, the henna artist and facepainter…. definitely grateful for all the work, but I am looking forward to a more sane schedule in November!

Having fun with UV-reactive facepaint and blacklights!
Having fun with UV-reactive facepaint and blacklights on Hallowe’en! The wig has flashing fiber-optics, but for some reason I wasn’t able to catch the flash in ANY photo!

Glitter Tats for the Cure!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to my campaign, Glitter Ribbons for the Cure.  All proceeds go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation — which then sends 91% of its monies to real research facilities.

We have a winner!

I was pleasantly surprised by the response from my contest!  There were more than 10 entries!  Woo hoo!  And of all who entered, Buffy emerged as the winner! Thanks to everyone who participated!  And congratulations to Buffy!

NaBloPoMo again…

I’ve gotten out of my writing groove… and I figure that signing up for a blog challenge will give me the push I need… at least, that’s the plan!  I aim to post “something” every week-day during the month of November.  I do not plan to write a novel…that’s the other challenge, NaNoWriMo… that’s a noble goal and I have  few friends who are signed up… but not this year, for me.

Fitness

It’s friday… and I’ve not had the best month in this area, either.  November is a new month. I am walking the Electric Run next week-end which should be tons of fun — but not really a fitness push since I already walk 3 miles every day.  I’m not sure when my next “race” will be — most week-ends in November are booked — gigs and a visit from my mother (who lives in Nashville, TN).  Perhaps there is a 10k in December I can do.  I’ve discovered that I get a bit complacent without a goal to work towards and just walking 3 miles a day isn’t helping offset the start of pie season…

Skincare

It’s been a stressful month and my skin has  flared up a few times — hives, eczema?  Who knows… so I’ve been back to using only the products my Dr. recommended… CeraVe… cleanser, pm moisturizer and sunscreen.

ceravepm

My new favorite: CeraVe PM

What the website says:

Unique, Patented MVE® Delivery Technology

Ordinary moisturizing lotions need to be applied frequently because the ingredients are released in a single “burst” and absorbed in a short period of time. Like other CeraVe® Skin Care products, CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM offers the benefits of unique, patented MVE® delivery technology, which provides a controlled release of essential ceramides and other skin-nourishing ingredients slowly over time. It penetrates deep into the skin to moisturize throughout the day while “locking in” precious moisture. The unique ingredients in CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM help restore and maintain the natural protective function of the skin barrier, help restore damaged skin and help keep skin healthy – all night long.

Ingredients: BEHENTRIMONIUM METHOSULFATE AND CETEAYL ALCOHOL, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, CARBOMER, CERAMIDE 1, CERAMIDE 3,CERAMIDE 6-II, CETEARETH-20 AND CETEARYL ALCOHOL, CHOLESTEROL, DIMETHICONE,  DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, DISODIUM EDTA, GLYCERIN,  HYALURONIC ACID, METHYLPARABEN,  NIACINAMIDE, PHYTOSPHINGOSINE, POLYGLYCERYL-3 DIISOSTEARATE, POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE,  PROPYLPARABEN, PURIFIED WATER, SODIUM LAUROYL LACTYLATE, XANTHAN GUM

What I say it does: This is a great moisturizer!  Not quite as much as I need at night in the winter, but perfect for daytime under my sunscreen (currently CeraVE Sunscreen for Face, SPF 30)… It’s basic, doesn’t irritate anything and really keeps my skin soft.  Being the junkie that I am, I wish it had some fun, exotic ingredients like snail spit… but it’s exactly what the Dr. ordered and it works… so I’m working it for now. And it’s easy to find at the drugstore and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, either…

Happy November to you too! October just flew by! I’m not much of a pie person, but I love to bake quick breads and there is an apple pie like quick bread that I want to make soon.
